In my opinion, Wild Goose owner Larry Kroeze should consider the "off again/on again" status of ThreeSixty at South Bay, the partially-built gated community at Aviation and El Segundo in Hawthorne. The development had a grand opening in Fall 2007, stopped sales in Spring 2008 and shut down completely for two years until re-opening in Spring 2010 with "early phase offerings". Last year, Larry expected the plans for his "393 residences and some ground-floor retail" to go to the County Board of Supervisors in Spring 2010, get approved and be "ready and waiting" for the Green Line extension in 2017 or thereabouts. However, given the flat-footed history of the neighboring ThreeSixty project, I believe that scrapping the flight plan for The Goose would be wise. OTOH, if the County Board of Supervisors approves the speculative plan, I'll buy you 10 lap dances before the club closes! It could be next spring, or it might not be for a year or more. Apparently there are environmental and other types of testing that have to be done, not to mention all of the hoops everyone involved will have to jump thru in order to get this deal sealed. Nobody really knows (or is saying)when it will happen. And I wouldn't trust a damn thing that Larry had to say anyways. The lights don't go down and the music doesn't start until after 12 noon, even though they open at 11. Even then the pickings are slim with not much on stage until after 1 or 2 o'clock. The club is going to close sometime next year so no one seems to making a lot of effort. Yet most of the dancers at the club were told it was a case of "eminent domain". I see no mention of that in the article. Is the owner trying to make it seem to the employees like he had no say in this club's closing? That way he's not the bad guy putting people out of work. If that is the case then he is a lying sack of shit. He also isn't saying what a PITA it is managing people (just it's a 7 day/week job) and that not having to do that probably takes 30 points off the blood pressure of whoever's responsible of running the place. Then there's the estate tax reform that the Obama nation will kill off making passing the estate to the family even more difficult. Holding onto illiquid assets like real estate and businesses make paying the Feds difficult and turning the property into a cash cow or cashing out makes sense. Other than that, the last few times I've been at the WG it seems more customers are there and more dancers have been there.
