Is there something wrong with the messaging function?  When composing a message, I get a screen with an addressee window saying "Start typing."  I type the name in and it disappears.  I go ahead and finish the message, then type the name in again, hit send.  It replies with an error message that says the addressee has to be filled in or it won't go.  I fill in the addressee, and hit send again.  Same drill.  I did successfully send a message the other night to the same PL.

I've been having the same trouble, but mostly on the mobile site, not the desktop version.

Are you using an iPad? What browser/platform are you using (e.g. Safari/Windows 7)?

It sounds like a browser incompatibility problem. I'm currently using the latest version of Firefox on Windows Vista 64bit and there are a few issues, but not the particular one you are experiencing.

I'm on an iMac on Safari, though I've also tried Firefox with the same result: Enter addressee's handle where window says "Start typing," move on to message text window, name disappears from name window and it says "Start typing" again.

Okay, more info. I overcame the problem of the addressee's name going away when I stopped using the tab key to get from one field to the next. Used the mouse instead. Message looked ready to go when I finished, hit send, got an error window: "Send To: This field must be filled in." No way to get rid of the error message, no way to get back to the "send to" window, which still had the addressee's name in it anyway.

I think I know what is going on. If I type "qbg" in the name field, then press TAB, the name field now shows "Start typing..". However, the name "qbg" will appear below the name field with an "X" after it. This allows you to enter more names to add to the list of people you want to send your message to. If you didn't want that name that was entered, click on the "X" and that name will go away.

Hope that explains what is going on. If not, I might have to do some screen captures to try to explain it.

Let me know if it works on the iMac in Safari or not.

I track your first sentence. However, there is no "However . . ." There is no name below the name field with an X after it.

This may be a result of my continuing to use the OS that came with the iMac four and a half years ago -- OS 10.4 (Tiger). It's also the same Safari, and, while Firefox was more recently acquired, it tells me it's not fully updated, but couldn't be anyway given the OS I'm using.

In my experience, not updating frees me from a lot of hassles, but there are drawbacks.

Yes, I highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of Safari (which I think just had an update this week). Not just for this website but it will help you with most other websites as well.
