Pet Peeves in the forum
Q & A
Carmen said:I think cASSandra stated most of the pet peeves from dancer to customer that there really are... there are a few pet peeves I have though WITHIN the club though that I could discuss since no one has really gone there yet... I like to be individual and I work very hard at creating a unique and interesting stage show, a long time ago there was a girl who would go on stage after me and mimic my entire stage set...she danced to the music I would pick (and I don't dance to a lot of top 40- I make a big effort to dance to music no one else does) she would wear similar outfits and try to do my exact stage show...I know that imitation is the highest form of flattery but it would drive me up the wall.... There was once another girl who would follow me around the club, talking to to each customer I had just talked to immediately after I had walked away, and a few times even sat next to a customer I was sitting with and trying to catch his eye... I found that really weird and rude... One of the DJ's here in memphis would always put me up to the SAME 2 songs...I can't even hear those songs anymore I'm so sick of them..I would specifically ask to dance to rock so I wouldn't go up to those two songs and he would play them anyways...my set list is like 500 songs...he could have picked ANYTHING else...and it didn't make sense because I thought dj's hated when girls did that, but he did it to me...
I can relate to your peevs for sure. I've had a couple of girls who were "bootleg" versions of me. Copying my obscure music selections and outfits. a couple changed their hair to look like mine, too. At our club, after 10 pm, they put more than one girl up at a time. My copy cats would make sure to get on stage while I was there and follow me from customer to customer. One used to even eavesdrop on my converstaions then approach my customers trying to imitate my convo. One copy recently told a customer "they call me Dallas, jr." Weird.
Many of my customers noticed it too. (They told me about the convo thing.)
Stay Strong, girl. This just means you are doing something right. Let the biters motivate you to keep improving. At a certain point, it becomes clear that you are "the show" and they are the knock off;-)
What's been funny to notice is how much money you make on stage compared to your "bootleg version." I'm sure you are still WINNING!!!
